Day 01 - A song
Day 02 - A picture
Day 03 - A book/ebook/fanfic
Day 04 - A site
Day 05 - A youtube clip
Day 06 - A quote
Day 07 - Whatever tickles your fancy

This is easy. Since I have really gotten into pop music more these days I've been listening to these guys more and more, but I have by no means just gotten into them. I've actually seen this band live two or three times. Each time I see them, I become increasingly jealous of the band's lead male singer, Scott Blonde: he gets to wear nothing but a vest and tight leather pants on stage, something which I will never in my life have the freedom to do :(
Anyway, check out this Oakland band, the Lovemakers. They just came out with a new album this year and it sounds great. They're like the Californian Scissor Sisters.

Me
So, I'm on my super ancient desktop computer right now. I'm looking through iTunes because I'm making Brendan a new wave CD. But, as I search for the songs to put on the disc, I run across something that makes my heart skip in excitement--the song Travis Bilenski recorded for me back in the spring of 2007. It's called "Stixy Loves an Internet Boy." Back in the day, I thought it was the most hilarious thing in the world, and I pretty much still do. I thought it had been lost in the Great Music Purge of my old computer in the fall of '07.

The excitement of finding this track caused me to fervently search for more songs that I might still have stored. Neutral Milk Hotel's "Song Against Sex" put me into throes of fanciful memories from early/summer of '07. Going on, I find "Lump" by The Presidents of the United States of America. More memories gush out. "I Was Born (A Unicorn)" by the Unicorns, "Chicago (acoustic)" by Sufjan, "Mass Romantic" from the New Pornographers, and, it goes without saying that I filled my ears with "Kissing the Lipless" by the Shins (mine and Brendan's song) and yes, even "Gettin' Some" by Shawnna.

And then I found something that caused me to nearly lose myself completely. I found that I had imported the album of that little pirate band that used to play on Pacific Avenue in Santa Cruz. The Curse is Cast!, they were called. The band with the skinny ragged kids who couldn't be more than 18 at the time; one who looked like Drew, and the girl who reminded me of a wild Peter Pan. My heart is swelling like it's going to burst.
The music is nearly terrible from an objective point of view, but it's mine. This was my summer! This was my adventurous, complicated, youthful, wild, heartbreaking, soul-finding summer! I bought this band's CD for $4, I believe, two of the bills borrowed from Dick and thrown into a banjo case. It might have been the weekend of Ashley's 19th birthday, the one where we watched Dick and Christopher Robin wrestle on the beach as we perched on the cliffs and laughed from above. The one where we got lost in the forests in the rain on a winding road but we didn't care: we just cranked up the stereo and sang "Louie Louie" at the top of our lungs again and again. Or, maybe I mingled those memories together. It doesn't matter. They all bleed into each other, they all mingle in my mind and branch off into other memories and sentiments and they all mean nearly the same thing.

I miss it. I'm being extremely sentimental but I miss it, and I miss certain people. Some of them are even on my friends list, but they'll probably never know how very much I miss them. It isn't even necessarily that I'd like to rekindle anything; I am simply enraptured to find that, in these songs these fragments of time have been kept on record, crystallized. Though, I can't exactly brush away the smaller, but very distinct, throb that I feel in the pit of my chest.

Oh, god, another meme?
